Irish teacher here. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get your NQT hours done while teaching abroad? Do schools sign-off on the 300 mandatory NQT teaching hours you need to be fully recognised by the teaching council?
Yes you can complete your 300 hours in an International School Overseas in any country provided that it is a recognised school and the hours are verified and signed by the school principal. There is a form you need to fill in, here is a link to it – http://www.teachingcouncil.ie/en/Publications/Registration/Documents/Application-Form-B.pdf You need to have this form signed and stamped by your Principal. Once it is is completed you should return it to the Teaching Council. We know many teachers who have done this successfully while teaching overseas and have reported no issues. Please note that there may be other criteria that must be fulfilled for full recognition i.e induction workshops so please visit http://www.teachingcouncil.ie/ for more info.
