American Teacher Certificate (Online)

This nine-month online course is a fantastic way of getting a US teaching license while abroad.

Pros: 

  • Fully certified Teacher status on completion
  • Can be completed online
  • Teaching practice can be taken in your current school abroad
  • You don't have to be a U.S. citizen 

Cons: 

  • Cost: $6,000 
  • You must be currently teaching or have access to teach in order to complete the practical element of the course

UK Teaching Certificate (Online)

Straight to Teaching (Tes institut)

This is a low-cost alternative to teacher training and is aimed at unqualified teachers or teaching assistants who are currently teaching and wish to become fully-qualified.

Pros:

  • If you have a lot of teaching experience, you may be eligible for an 'Assessement Only' route which can lead to becoming teacher qualified in 12 weeks
  • You can complete this training abroad

Cons:

  • Only available in BSO inspected International Schools which offer the English National Curriculum
  • Cost: From £3,600 - £9,000 depending on Preparation & Assessment route taken

PGCEi

(Postgraduate Certificate in Education International - Nottingham University, UK)                              

This 12 month  part-time online course is perhaps one of the easiest and most convenient ways to improve your chances of landing a great job in International Education.  

Pros: 

  • Can be completed early (within 8 months)
  • It runs in 14 locations around the world making it easier to find one near you
  • Can be completed online

Cons:

  • There’s a mandatory face-to-face introductory event to attend in one of the 14 locations
  • Cost: £3,500 - £3,660
  • It is not an official teaching qualification so it does not offer Qualified Teacher Status in the UK

PGCEi

(Postgraduate Certificate in Education International - Sunderland University, UK)                              

This 34 week (full-time) online course is a great way to get an internationally recognised teaching qualification. It can be delivered to primary, secondary and post-16 teachers and to any subject specialism.

Pros: 

  • Can be completed in one academic year (34weeks full time)
  • Can be undertaken both in the UK and in an international setting
  • Can be completed online

Cons:

  • It's a full time course 
  • Cost: £6,500
  • It is not an official teaching qualification so it does not offer Qualified Teacher Status in the UK
